Inondation

Nouvange is Louisiana’s future–a metal and concrete barricade against the vanishing coastline. Bell Richards is the team lead at one of Nouvange’s tech companies. Bell has long been a passive participant in her life, content to not engage as long as things remain comfortable and predictable. Thus, she dislikes her job and how intrusive it is on how she works, but stays for the financial security it provides for herself and her young daughter.

One day, during an otherwise normal team-building exercise in a virtual reality, there is a sudden flood. When the digital waters recede, they leave behind a mysterious object: a carved rabbit. One of Bell’s teammates immediately suspects sabotage, but Bell isn’t so sure. Her mind changes when the mysterious floods become more frequent, and more dangerous. Delving into this mystery will leave Bell’s life forever changed.

We are the flood.

An important component of Inondation is the participation and inclusion of indigenous characters in the story.

As part of research for this novel, I collaborated with members of the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe (PACIT) to ensure that the book’s depictions of PACIT and other coastal tribes were faithful. To learn more about PACIT, and to donate, please visit their website.
